Defender Sean Crighton says working with David Hopkin during his spell at Greenock Morton helped sway his decision to sign for the Lions this summer.

Centre- back Crighton ( 26) was a member of the League One title-winning side in 2014-15 at Morton, alongside fellow Livi new boy Mikey Miller, before a one-year stint at Airdrieonians.

He said: “David Hopkin was the under-20 manager when I was at Greenock Morton, so I know him quite well and I know what kind of person and coach he is, and that certainly helped sell me on a move to Livingston.

“He’s very driven and wants to get the best out of his players, as well as himself and the coaching staff.

“He was great with the boys at Morton and you knew exactly what you were going to get from him, so that swayed my decision.”

Crighton also admitted he was keen to add a second League One winners’ medal to his haul with Livingston.

He said: “I’m raring to go and it’s a new challenge for a lot of the boys, including the four of us that have come in from Airdrie.

“Our aim is to go out and win this league and I’m sure all the guys have that same mentality and are all on board with that and will work as hard as possible to achieve that goal.

with Morton before moving to Airdrie, where I thought we were just maybe a wee bit inconsistent last season, which ultimately cost us.

“You’ll have to change the type of football you play at times in this league, but whatever the manager is wanting will be fine with us all and I guess having that experience of playing in this league for a wee while will help with the ability to adapt to the different styles we’ll be up against.”

Crighton is also confident that his budding friendship with fellow centre-half Alan Lithgow will benefit both players, and the team, on the park.

He said: “I formed a very good partnership with big Alan at Airdrie last season, and I bonded really well with Nicky Cadden and Liam Watt as well.

“Myself and Al are very good pals off the pitch now and hopefully that can show on the pitch this season going forward.”

Crighton and his fellow exDiamonds will return to New Broomfield for the second match of the League One season on August 13.
