Development plan is okayed
a new development plan to promote growth in West Lothian has been approved.
the Council Executive has voted to support the new West Lothian Local Development plan (LDp), which sets out the development strategy for the area for the next 10 years.
a local development plan is a legal requirement and sets out a vision for the future of how places should change and what they might be like in the future, providing for homes and jobs.
the new LDp focuses on creating a positive environment for economic growth in West Lothian, concentrating on Winchburgh, armadale and the Calders and strategic sites such as Heartlands in Whitburn, as well as supporting sustainable levels of growth in smaller communities.
It was created in consultation with West Lothian communities and stakeholders, with over 700 submissions received from local residents and interested parties.
Council leader John Mcginty said:“I welcome the approval of the new Local Development plan as a key part of ensuring West Lothian continues to grow and prosper. thanks to everyone who took the time to tell us their views, which will now be submitted to scottish government.
“It’s vital we have a sound strategy for appropriate development, as we look to continue inward investment in West Lothian.
“We are also mindful of the need for growth in some of West Lothian’s smaller communities such as Breich and Fauldhouse, with the LDp providing the platform.”
the West Lothian LDp will now be submitted to the scottish government reporter for examination.
the reporter will then give a report to the council, with the adoption of the final plan expected by early 2017.
