West Lothian showed its appreciation of the work of the Armed Forces during West Lothian’s tribute to to our heroes.

West Lothian Armed Forces Day was held on June 19 at The Centre, Livingston, a week ahead of national Armed Forces Day.

There was a parade, entertainment from local singer Amy Hawthorn, a drill display from the Cadets of the Air Training Corps, an inter- service tug of war competition, static displays from the military and service charities and a beating retreat which included the firing of a gun from the Royal Artillery.

Armed Forces Day is the annual national campaign that gives everyone the opportunity to show their support for the men and women of the Armed Forces past and present, including currently serving troops, service families, reservists, veterans and cadets.

Karen Elliot, event organiser, said: “This was our fourth event in West Lothian and it was wonderful that so many members of the public and members of the military family joined us in showing our collective support.

“I would especially like to thank the management team of The Centre, Livingston as well as West Lothian Council for their sponsorship.”

The UK Armed Forces defend the country and its interests. Every day of the year they are busy working around the world, promoting peace, delivering aid, tackling drug smugglers and providing security and fighting terrorism.

Provost Tom Kerr added: “Armed Forces Day provides a focus for everyone to mark the contribution of the brave men and women past and present who represent the Armed Forces.

“The West Lothian Armed Forces Day event on Sunday, June 19 which was organised by the West Lothian British Legion Livingston Branch, provided an opportunity for local people to show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.”
