Swim for free offer
Holiday sessions
Youngsters aged 15 and under living in West Lothian are being invited to stay safe during the summer holidays by taking advantage of free swimming.
Xcite and West Lothian Council’s free swimming programme is available across West Lothian from today ( Thursday, June 30) until Monday (August 22). The West Lothian Councilfunded programme aims to encourage young people to keep active and healthy during the school holiday periods.
Free swimming sessions are available from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, throughout the school summer holidays, at Xcite pools in Armadale, Bathgate, Broxburn, Linlithgow, Livingston, and Whitburn, as well as West Lothian Council pools in Deans and Inveralmond Community High Schools, and Fauldhouse Partnership Centre. Free swimming is available for one session per day per person.
Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult and limited spaces are available.
Dave King, executive councillor for culture and leisure, said: “As part of the annual West Lothian Summer Safe campaign we are encouraging young people to use the pools to swim for free.
“If the weather is good it can be tempting to try swimming in a river or loch, but swimming in open water can be very dangerous as the water can be very cold, there could be unseen objects in the water, or what looks calm on the surface could have strong undercurrents. We would like everyone to stay safe this summer.”
