Support for T4H
Health plan success
A community- based health and wellbeing programme is proving to be popular in two West Lothian towns.
Together for Health ( T4H) works in Armadale and Fauldhouse in partnership with local organisations, businesses and community groups to promote healthy lifestyles.
Events include: Fruity Friday, which is sponsored by local businesses, is held on the last Friday of the month and aims to encourage local children to increase their fruit consumption; Family Fun and Get Cooking, which aims to encourage families to move more and eat better; Run for Fun is a 2km and 5km walk or run event for families and people of all abilities and Jolly Joggers which provides local people with the opportunity to attend a free exercise and support group to encourage people of all levels to take the first steps to become more active.
In Armadale the organisation of the annual Run for Fun event was transferred to a T4H partner Dream Fitness, which will lead on the delivery and future planning of the event. The transfer is accompanied by a three-year plan to give ownership of the event to the community. Following the success of its first Fauldhouse Run for Fun event in 2015, which attracted 100 participants, T4H will support the delivery of the event in Fauldhouse with GRC Triathlon as the local partner taking a lead in the event.
Executive councillor for health and care Anne McMillan commented: “It is fantastic that local volunteers, groups and organisations are behind Together for Health in Armadale and Fauldhouse.
“The project is wellestablished in Armadale and making a difference in Fauldhouse; so now is the right time for the focus to transfer some of the key events into community ownership. This is a reflection of the strength of the programme and the commitment and support from local communities which has enabled capacity to be developed by Together for Health since the start of the programme.”
