Wright edged out by Taylor after thriller

-

Livingston darts ace Peter Wright suffered a second consecutive quarter- final defeat in the World Series of Darts event.

He was edged out in a lastleg thriller against Phil Taylor at the Shanghai Masters.

But it was an incredible collapse from Wright, who sat 7-1 up before suffering an 8-7 loss.

Dutchman Michael van Gerwen went on to win the event after defeating James Wade 8-3 in the final.

As with last week in New Zealand, Wright eased past a local qualifier as he defeated Royden Lam 6-1 in the first round.

The 45-year-old Snakebite recovered impressively after suffering defeat in the first leg.

However, an immediate break back from Wright set the tempo and saw him reel off six straight legs to set up a last eight clash against The Power.

Wright looked to have the upper hand after winning the first three legs in impressive style.

The Scot should have made it four in a row but missed eight darts at a double before being punished by Taylor.

However, a spectacular 11dart leg handed the initiative to Wright, who proceeded to take a 7- 1 lead before a spectacular collapse saw him edged out for a semifinal berth.

The third leg of the World Series begins on July 6 in Tokyo, Japan.

The final will take place at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow in November.
