Audi right on Q

- Arrives in time for winter

The new Q2 – Audi’s entry into the premium compact SUV market – will cost from £20,230 when it arrives here in November.

A real looker, the newcomer becomes the prestige brand’s fourth car to carry the now familiar Q badge and is sure to be a big seller.

It looks sure to shake up the crossover category thanks to infotainment and assistance systems from the larger Audi models – including the optionally available virtual cockpit, head-up display and park assist.

Standard kit includes the likes of Audi pre sense with pedestrian recognition, which senses critical situations with other vehicles as well as pedestrians crossing in front, and if necessary it can brake to a standstill at low speeds.

Other systems comprise adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, traffic jam assist, lane-departure warning, Audi side assist, active lane assist, traffic sign recognition and rear cross-traffic assist.

At launch there will be a choice of two four-cylinder engines – the 1.6 TDI with 115PS and A Cylinder-on-Demand 1.4 TFSI with 150PS.

A three-cylinder 1.0 TFSI with 115PS and a 150ps four-cylinder 2.0 TDI will become available later in the year.

As an alternative to the six-speed manual transmission, there’s also the S tronic dual clutch box with seven speeds for all engines bar the 1.0 TFSI.

And from the middle of next year a 2.0 TFSI petrol engine allied exclusively to quattro all-wheel-drive and S tronic transmission will be introduced.

Audi says progressive steering is standard in all versions while adaptive dampers are available as an option along with Audi drive select for personalising the A2’s driving characteristics.

The three trim grades start with SE, which includes stuff like Audi smartphone interface, which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto displayed via the MMI screen once a phone is plugged in.

Bluetooth is also standard, as is the MMI radio plus with MMI controller and heated, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors. Inlays can be chosen in either white or orange.

An extra £1,550 sees Sport models come with 17-inch alloy wheels, Audi drive select with five operational modes, cruise control, light and rain sensors and sport seats.

Prices start at £20,230 for the Q2 1.0 TFSI 115PS SE six-speed manual model rising to £30,610 for the 150PS Q2 2.0 TDI quattro S line.
