Logan family celebrate WLBA treble

-

It was certainly a season to remember for the Logan family as Raymond and his sons Calum and Scott all won West Lothian Bowls Association titles on the same night at Linlithgow.

Calum – the youngest of the two brothers – was the first player to set the finals alight as the 27- year- old hit the ground running in his bid to capture the Junior Open title for a third time having etched his name on The Fred Meikle Trophy in 2010 and 2014.

Having made his full cap debut for Scotland in 2014, and with eight Junior International Series also to his credit, there was a wide gap in experience between the two finalists and he gave no time for emerging star Shaun Cairns of Harrysmuir to settle.

Logan stormed into an early convincing lead as he appeared utterly determined to win a third title.

After 10 ends it was evident who the winner would be as Logan sat 18-2 to the good before eventually sealing a 21-3 success.

Scott has achieved Hamilton Trophy status with East Lothian but had yet to set the record books on fire in his native West Lothian, so he will be delighted to have bagged the County Fours title playing second to Darren Pearce, Mark Allison, and Commonwealth Games gold medal star Neil Speirs.

One of the duties of a second is to mark the scorecard so when Logan entered a super six in favour of Kirkliston on end two his spirits would soar in expectation that it could be long a night for the opposition rink of Scott Middlemiss, Dave McQueen, Eddie Caulfield, and Simon Lamb.

And so it proved as Kirkliston converted an encouraging start into a comfortable 13-4 lead after nine ends.

They never let up their attack as they clinched a 17-9 victory to seal the trophy.

Father Raymond ( 61) is a famous figure in the West Lothian bowls scene and was the Scottish Singles winner in 1998.

He was hunting a WLBA headline triumph as skip to Andi Gray in the Mark Feeney sponsored Pairs for the Dalyell Shield.

Gray was defending the title having won it the previous year with Neil Speirs and his dreams of basking in the limelight yet again were boosted by a terrific start that saw the partnership card 1 (1), 3, 5, 7 to have Whitburn’s Mark Finlayson and Robert Knox at their 16-1 mercy.

There was no way back for Whitburn, and the commanding 22-8 victory of Gray and Logan triggered the Kirkliston Bowling Club celebrations of a unique father and two sons achievement of WLBA title wins on the same night.
