He’s gone and Dunnett again
Queensferry star Andy Dunnett etched his name on the coveted Baillie Trophy for a third time as he lifted the WLBA Singles title.
The final of the Singles pitched Dunnett (42) against the 2014 champion Colin Cruickshanks of Pumpherston and they produced a 21-end ebb and flow battle that kept the busy crowd at Linlithgow BC well entertained.
It was nip and tuck during the early stages and entering end 12, Dunnett – a double winner of the West Lothian Masters – was against the collar at 10-8 down.
However, he accelerated to 16-11 in front with counts of 2, 4, (1), 2.
Cruichshanks responded with a magic count of three to 14 but Dunnett answered that menace with a 2, 1 reply to 19 before being pegged back to19-17.
But Dunnett would clinch the title with a double in the next end.
The final of The Triples for The MacLardy Trophy ended in triumph for the host club with Hamilton Trophy star Steven Fleming skipping Andy Cruickshanks and Mark Graham to a handsome 18-9 victory.
But not before the opposition trio of Jackie Gray, Andrew Liddle, and Jim Johnston of Bridgeness had made the early running to lead 7-2 then 8-6. However the next two ends were game-changers with Linlithgow carding four and three to hit the front at 13-8.
The final of The Rosebery Cup (1882) takes place at Whitburn BC this Sunday (2pm) and features Kirkliston against Uphall Station.
