Council lifts trio of excellence awards

West Lothian Council has been recognised for the quality of its services at the Quality Scotland ‘ Scottish Awards for Business Excellence’ Awards recently.

The council was named as the overall winner of the coveted ‘Scottish Award for Business Excellence 2016’ at Quality Scotland’s ‘Scottish Awards for Business Excellence’.

The accolade is awarded to the organisati­on which demonstrat­es a continuing focus on business improvemen­t and ensures that all areas of the organisati­on builds on its strengths to attain even higher levels of excellence throughout its entire operation.

The council was also honoured with the ‘ Recognised for Excellence, 5 star’ Award and the ‘Leading with Vision, Inspiratio­n and Integrity’ Good Practice Award.

West Lothian Council is the only council in Scotland to have received the prestigiou­s ‘ Recognised for Excellence, 5 star’ Award.

It is also the second time the council has received the accolade.

The awards were presented to the council at the Scottish Award for Business Excellence 2016 which was held at Quality Scotland’s 25th Anniversar­y Awards ceremony recently.

More than 300 guests from the private, public and third sector, attended the event to celebrate Scotland’s outstandin­g achievemen­ts in the field of business excellence.

Leader of West Lothian Council John McGinty commented: “It is a truly fantastic result for West Lothian Council to be recognised with three prestigiou­s awards. In particular it is a great honour to have been recognised with the overall title of ‘ Scottish Award for Business Excellence 2016’ especially when we are being measured against public sector, third sector and private organisati­ons.

“To be the only council in Scotland to have achieved the ‘Recognised for Excellence, 5 star’ Award and to pick it up for the second time is amazing.

“West Lothian Council’s aim is to improve the quality of life for local people by delivering excellent services.

“This public service needs commitment and dedication and I would like to take this opportunit­y to thank our staff who work across our area providing 24/ 7 services; caring and supporting local people of all ages; looking after the environmen­t ; nurturing; encouragin­g our young people; and promoting our local economy.

“West Lothian Council also has a reputation for having strong partnershi­ps which also supports our efforts.”

Chief executive Graham Hope added: “We are delighted to have been recognised with these three prestigiou­s awards. West Lothian Council is committed to providing excellent quality services which are designed to meet the needs of our local communitie­s.

“The commitment flows throughout our organisati­on and is underpinne­d by our fantastic employees.”

Offering her congratula­tions to West Lothian Council, Claire Ford, chief executive officer, Quality Scotland said: “Huge congratula­tions to West Lothian Council on achieving 5 star Recognised for Excellence and winning our coveted Scottish Award for Business Excellence 2016. The council has establishe­d a sustained improvemen­t programme over many years which is well embedded in all activities.

“This award is a clear demonstrat­ion of all the hard work and dedication of staff across the organisati­ons and a clear commitment from the Senior Management Team of the importance and impact of a robust programme of selfassess­ment.”
