All gone wrong for Wright

-

Peter Wright has been nothing if not consistent in this season’s World Series of Darts events.

Unfortunately for the Livingstonborn ace it has not been in the way he would like.

The 46-year-old suffered a second-round defeat for the third time at the contest’s third event in Tokyo.

He had been knocked out in the quarter-final stages in both Sydney and Perth, suffering a particularly galling defeat to Phil Taylor in the latter event.

Wright was sitting 7-1 up and needed just a single leg to book his place in the final four when Taylor rattled off seven straight legs to seal an 8-7 win.

As has been the pattern in this event this year, Wright eased past the local qualifier in the first round.

He was in imperious form as he hit his first five shots at double on the way to a 6-0 whitewash over Chiara Fujimori.

But it was a familiar story the following day as he lost 8-6 to Adrian Lewis in the quarter-final.

Yet again, Wright took an early advantage and led 3-1 before Lewis stepped up a gear and eventually booked a semi-final spot with a 12-dart leg.

The World Series of Darts final is scheduled to take place at the Braehead Arena in early November.

Wright has been drawn against Joe Cullen in the first round of the World Matchplay. The fifth seed will be heavily favoured to progress to the latter stages of event, which takes place at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool between July 16-24.
