-

the singing Children of africa return to the uK on their‘smile’tour with stops in Bathgate, armadale and Livingston.

and they will be putting on a special performance at Howden park Centre in Livingston on september 2, when they will be joined by pupils from Harrysmuir primary school.

the children, from the Joluarabi school in Kenya will perform a range of traditional african and contemporary songs and dances - african style!

one of the organisers, Liz grant, said:“this is a not to be missed performance which will make you smile, laugh and perhaps cry, but you will leave feeling uplifted.

the children are supported by the charity Educate the Kids and all money raised from this concert goes directly to an education programme.

the charity supports children who otherwise would have no hope of attending school, let alone coming to another country to sing.

the singing Children of africa have also been invited to Murieston united Community Football Club to enjoy a football fun day followed by a friendly game on august 27 from 12pm to 4pm and spectators are welcome.

the children will also visit Windyknowe, Harrysmuir and riverside primary schools and perform a concert in armadale acadamy.

also watch out for them singing and performing in the Elements Centre Livingston on saturday, september 3 from 10am.

the Educate the kids programme was founded by Livingston couple Maureen and Ian McIntyre in 1998.

Initially, a few children were sponsored by the couple through an existing primary school and, as word spread and numbers grew, a derelict building was converted into a school for 120 children.

Later a brand new school and facilities were built and in 2006 Maureen formed a singing group in Kenya called the‘singing Children of africa’and money raised from a subsequent tour helped to build an orphanage.
