Kirknewton

Simply Play at Kirknewton provides award winning afterschoo­l childcare in Kirknewton. They are based in Kirknewton Primary school and collect children from the school. For vacancies and further informatio­n please call the club manager Hazel on 07871 791000. Drop in to The Green Room each week day morning for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat between 9-1pm. The session is supported by a local volunteer. Lap tops are available for use, Ipad mini’s as well as KOBO readers. Our eco-friendly building is cosy and warm so feel free to pop in and find out what is happening in the local community. Kirknewton Youth Club is a weekly group for S1-S6 young people. The group is supported by a team of local volunteers and the Kirknewton Community Developmen­t Trust Youth and Volunteer Coordinato­r who provide fun and engaging activities for the young people of the village. So far the group has done a card trick workshop, cookery sessions and pizza night! Encourage your child along each Friday evening from 6-8pm, £1 in the Green Room Playgroup is held in the Village Hall on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9-11.15am during term time, cost £5 per child. We are a happy, friendly and safe drop off playgroup for children aged 2-4 and a half. Rainbows Girls aged 5-7 are welcome to come along to Kirknewton Village Hall every Wednesday during term times between 5pm and 6.15pm. Whitburn Scout Group meetings take place in Brucefield Church Halls. Thursday meetings of the groups Beaver Scout Sections resumes tonight. Spaces are available in both sections which meets 5.50-6.60pm and the second section from 6.45-7.45pm. Beaver Scouts are for children between 6-8 years and offers the chance to experience fun, games, crafts, outings, friendship and a chance to learn and try new things. Club Scout meet-

CDT’s annual fair day will be held on Saturday 3 Sept from 11-2pm. Crafts, baking, raffle, stalls, refreshmen­ts and food. Free activities including mini zoo, storytelli­ng, photo mementos, bouncy castle, giant slide and face painting. Sambalisti­c playing from 11-1pm. Those wishing to join the Sambalisti­c workshop are required to sign up at 11.30am. All activities at the Village Green (across from Scotmid), The Hub, The Salvation Army Hall and St Andrew’s Church Hall. Everyone is invited to come along and support this community event. Septemberf­est Concert in aid of the Children’s Galaday will be held in St Johns Parish Hall on Friday 2 Sept commencing 7.30 pm. Armadale Shed has been busy recently undertakin­g our day-to-day activities and planning for the future. In one of the regular workshop sessions we welcomed Fiona Hyslop MSP and showed her the variety of activities and projects we undertake. Please note that the open day planned for 7 September has to be moved to 21 September. We apologise for any inconvenie­nce caused by this change. The Board of Armadale Shed is looking at funding beyond April 2017, when current funding runs out and has already won seedcorn funding. Armadale Thistle fundraisin­g prize bingo evening will take place tomorrow Friday in the Cavalier. Doors open 7.30pm, eyes down at 8pm. All welcome.

Blood Transfusio­n Unit recently visited Armadale and thanks is extended to all existing and new donors who attended. The unit will return again on Tuesday 20 December when once again existing donors and new donors will be welcomed.

Harmony Dance Club meet in Armadale Community Centre at the usual time from 1.30pm – 3.30pm. Existing and new members welcome.

Credit Union are situated in Armadale Community Centre on Wednesday’s from 9.15am – 10.00 am and will continue to be in the Community Centre on a weekly basis. Posters are on display in Armadale Community Centre promoting what they have to offer to customers. The Credit Union are also in attendance at The Dale Hub on Wednesdays from 10am – 11am.

Armadale Parish Church Sunday services take place at 11am where a warm welcome awaits everyone. Do you shop online? Memory Cave Café takes place within Armadale Community Centre and Library for people with dementia and their carers and is supported by Alzheimer Scotland and run by volunteers from the Armadale community. The café takes place on the 3rd Friday of the month and is a place where carers and family members can drop in at any time between 10am – noon with someone they are caring for with dementia where

they will be warmly welcomed. The café provides a place to meet where people understand dementia, gain peer support and informatio­n, and enjoy a good blether with a varied programme each month which includes games, music and crafts. Please note the café is having a wee break in August but will resume again in September. All welcome.

Fellowship Group The Churches of Armadale Fellowship Group meet in the Methodist Church on Thursday evenings at 7pm.

Youth Space is situated above RS McColls and is accessed at the rear of Scotmid. Armadale Parish Church Guild meet following their summer recess on Monday 5 September from 2pm-4pm in the Church hall. All welcome. Thrift Shop Which is held in Armadale Parish Church hall reopens on Tuesday 6 September from 10amnoon. Come along and have tea and a blether and browse all the bargains on offer. Watson Bowling Club Wednesday 17 August hat winners – B Bowes, J Spalding, R Clayson. Due to weather conditions the Andrew Miles trophy match was cancelled on Saturday last and will now take place on Saturday 27 August and names are required for 1pm on the day. Would you like to have a taster session at bowling? If so the club can arrange this and bowls etc will be supplied. Parents with a child or by themselves will be most welcome. Armadale Bowling Club Congratula­tions is extended to Tracy Clarkson on winning the ladies championsh­ip. The two bowl pairs will take place on Saturday 27 August and names are required by 1pm on the day. The open triples will take place on Sunday 4 September and entries are required by Wednesday 1 September. The function suite is available for private hire and informatio­n can be obtained from the club. Bingo for members and friends takes place on Wednesdays at 8pm and Saturdays at 7.30pm and the treasure chest draw also takes place on Saturdays. A Wark’s number was drawn last Saturday but the correct key was not picked to open the chest. Prize money next week £350.00. A Karaoke will take place on Sunday 28 August between 7pm-11pm with every singer taking part being entered into a prize draw.
