Mid Calder Bowling Club will be holding a Cabaret Night with Diane Fields on Saturday August 27th. Tickets priced £5 are available from the Clubhouse bar. All members welcome.

Music Fest in Kirk of Calder on Friday the 9th September in aid of the Oldeani Project. We have a real treat in store for you as outstandin­g vocalists Amy Hawthorn and Ibiyemi Osinaike take you through an acoustic wonderland of heavenly songs from Etta James to Dusty Springfiel­d to Muse! It’s a colourful mix, but every song is golden. Amy is a profession­al singer and songwriter from Livingston whose hand-penned song ‘Hungry For You’ topped the Jazz I Tune Charts. She has sold out the Howden Park Centre a number of times, has toured extensivel­y, and has had her own radio show. Ibiyemi is originally from Nigeria but now happily settled in Livingston. He has had significan­t involvemen­t in musical theatre, and has performed in a number of prominent choirs. Tickets for the Music Fest are a mere £5.00 and are available from Susan Adams and John Povey, or turn up at the door, 7 pm for a 7.30 pm start. Don’t miss what will be an unforgetta­ble evening.

Mid Calder women’s group waiting list has re-opened. The Club is held every Monday from 1 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. in the Institute Hall, Mid Calder.

Mid Calder Boys’ Brigade meetings will restart in the Glenalmond Church Hall on Friday nights from August 26th.. Places are available for all age groups:- Anchors P1 to P2, 6.30pm - 7.30pm, Juniors P3 - P6 and Company Section P7 and older, 7.30pm - 9.00pm. Liv’n Harmony Singers is an adult choir with a difference. Meets on a Thursday evening 7.30pm to 9.30pm in the Black Bull, Mid Calder where the emphasis is on fun and laughter as much as singing. The Liv’n Harmoneez Kids and Teen Choir is an exciting choir which meets on Thursday nights in The Black Bull Function Suite, Mid Calder. Running from 6.10pm to 7.10pm and led by local Music Teacher, Allison Barr this promises to be a choir full of fun and laughter as well as learning skills in singing and vocal production. Kirk During the months of July and August there will be two Sunday services held in the Kirk of Calder each week. A short family service at 9.30am, followed by the more traditiona­l service at 10.30am. All are welcome at any of these services.

Friends of Kirk of Calder are once again offering Sunday afternoon guided tours around this historic church which dates back to 1541. The church will be open between 2pm and 4pm every Sunday from May until the last Sunday in September. Tours are free of charge. It is an ideal opportunit­y for visitors to view the church and grounds on their own or take a guided tour and learn about the church and its history. Teas and coffees will be available.

Mid Calder Community Council will hold their next meeting at 7.30pm on Thursday 8th September in the Institute Hall. All interested parties welcome. Please note that the Community Council does not meet in the months of July and August.

Volunteer Drivers needed to assist older people in the Mid Calder and Livingston area to attend local groups in West Lothian. The Cyrenians Befreindin­g Service helps alleviate loneliness and isolation in older people. Befriendin­g is delivered by volunteers and we urgently need volunteer drivers who can spare a few hours a month. Mileage costs are reimbursed at 45p per mile. Fairtrade Cafe welcomes anyone who would like to join us on a Tuesday between 10am and noon in the Glenalmond Hall where home baking is on sale. All funds raised go to street children of Peru c/o the Vine Trust. Come along and help us to promote fair trade and make new friends. The Fair Trade café is run by the Kirk of Calder.
