Join in free cycling challenge
West Lothian organisations are being urged to sign up to a website to show their support for cycling.
The Love to Ride Cycle Challenge aims to encourage cycling and friendly competition.
The challenge is open to anyone who lives or works in West Lothian and it is free to take part. It runs throughout September and there are over 10 workplaces already registered.
Executive councillor for the environment, Tom Conn said: “The West Lothian Challenge is run by Love to Ride in partnership with West Lothian Council. The West Lothian Cycle Challenge is all about encouraging people to hop on a bike so they can rediscover the joys and benefits of cycling. Organisations compete against each other to get the maximum amount of their staff to ride a bike anywhere, anytime in September.”
Anyone who logs a ride of at least 10 minutes is eligible to win prizes, including an E- Bike from Easy Go E-Bikes, a Hybrid Bike from Elevation Cycles, a bike service, cycling equipment, health club membership, movie tickets, vouchers and more.
Deborah Paton, transport policy officer at West Lothian Council said: “We are delighted to support this challenge as part of our Smarter Choices Smarter Places programme for 2016, with funding support from Transport Scotland. We hope the challenge will encourage people back to cycling, particularly for every day, short journeys. There are some great prizes on offer, alongside free training and promotional events.”
The challenge features live local and national league tables on the challenge website.
Participants can also log rides in the Challenge by joining their profile to their favourite smartphone apps. See lovetoride. net/ westlothian Also, www. w e s t l o t h i a n . g ov. u k / smarter-travel
