Get on your bike in Armadale

- Debbie Hall

A new scheme to encourage Armadale people to take up cycling has been launched.

Anyone who would you like to try cycling but doesn’t have a bike or who wants to learn some basics on how to maintain your bike can go along to the Dale Hub on Wednesdays from 6pm to 7.30pm.

The hub has started a bike lending library which allows people to borrow a bike if they need one.

With funding support from NHS Lothian, Cycling Scotland and Transport Scotland’s Smarter Choices Smarter Places programme, a number of bike lending libraries have been developed within communities across West Lothian. These libraries aim to support local people who need access to a bike, or who would like to get back on a bike but need some training and support.

If you have a bike, bring it along and volunteers will show you how to check if it’s safe to ride and make minor adjustment/repairs.

They will also go for a short cycle and run some basic bike ability activities to assess you’re cycling skills. Don’t be put off if you don’t have your own bike or helmet, as you can borrow one. Primary school aged children need to be accompanied by an adult and the hub especially welcomes senior citizens. These are free events, although there may be a small charge for any new parts we fitted to your bike. The Dale Hub is at Unit 26, Bathville Business Centre, Armadale Industrial Estate, Armadale. Telephone 01501 733248.
