Landmark success of council jobs scheme

- Marjorie Kerr

A Livingston firm has employed the 1000th young person on West Lothian Council’s Stepsn2work programme.

Capito has been a supporter of the programme since 2012 and has taken on three young people from the scheme.

Latest recruit Tiegan Brown, who joined Capitol as an admin assistant, is the 1000th young person to benefit from the scheme.

The Stepsn2work programme has a range of schemes designed to help local young people aged from 16 to 24 to get their foot on the job ladder.

Alan Middleton, managing director of Capito, said: “I was delighted to welcome Connor and Tiegan to the team this year.

“Work placements are an excellent way of helping people to develop their skills and abilities and can often lead to fulltime employment with a business, something we have been able to do on a number of occasions in recent years.”

Tiegan said: “The best thing about working at Capito is the people I work with. There is always a great atmosphere and everyone is very helpful.

“Already I feel that my confidence has improved and it is allowing me to develop all kinds of skills.”

Cathy Muldoon said: “It was fantastic to meet everyone at Capito and to find out about the business. Alan Middleton is a great advocate for the Stepsn2work programme and for supporting people into employment.”
