Daniel in line for Extreme title shot

Livi lad wins by TKO in Johannesburg

- Sports reporter

Livingston’s Daniel Henry is back in line for a shot at the Extreme Fighting Championship lightweight title after an impressive victory over top contender Wade Groth.

Henry, who fights out of the Higher Level Martial Arts gym in Whitburn, grabbed a TKO win over Groth in Johannesburg last week at EFC 53.

The Livi lad was signed by South African based Extreme Fighting Championships ( EFC) last year and made his debut in June 2015 where he submitted local fighter Hanru Botha via triangle choke in the first round.

EFC is Africa’s biggest promotion with attendances reaching up to ten thousand people with their events available in over 600 million homes worldwide across more than 110 countries.

Henry went on to win the lightweight title in only his third fight for EFC after scoring a fourth round TKO to take the belt from champion, Boyd Allen. However, unfortunately Henry was unable to defend the belt, losing a hard fought decision against South Africa’s undefeated rising star Igeu Kabesa.

But he quickly marked his intent to reclaim his crown by getting straight back in the cage to beat Barend Nienaber via TKO in the first.

And following his win over Groth, he is now in line for a shot to reclaim the belt.

Danny’s head coach, James Doolan, commented: “Since losing his belt, Danny has quickly stopped two title contenders to position himself to fight for the title again.

“Since moving to Higher Level Martial Arts Danny’s really found himself as a fighter and is getting better all the time. He is certainly making waves and moving up the UK rankings.

“He is the Scotland’s most active fighter with six pro fights in little over a year and has turned down offers from major European shows like BAMMA and ACB to concentrate on getting his EFC belt back”.
