Livi boys’ Cumnock woes

- Cumnock S2..... 45 Livingston S2 ... 37

Livingston Rugby Football Club Youth Section were unable to build on their impressive results last week with defeats against Cumnock.

The Under-18 side battled hard, losing by just five points but the Under-16s suffered a 38-10 defeat while the Under-15 team played a development game after only fielding seven players.

Coach Stuart Harvey admitted Livi’s inability to make the most of their chances was the crucial factor in the defeat.

He said:“The first half was actually a fairly even contest. Cumnock scored three tries but we had plenty of chances without taking them.”

Unconverted tries from Jamie Lumsden and Joseph Lejkowski in the second half put Livi on the board but they were unable to drag themselves back into the contest as Cumnock ran out comfortable victors.

They take on Dalziel next week hoping to learn from the defeat.

The S1 and S2 sides faced the same opposition on home soil with the younger age group suffering a 30-5 defeat.

The S2 team took their opponents all the way in a tough battle before falling away in the final stages, losing out 45-37, but coach Iain MacAulay said he was proud of the team’s effort, commenting:“To lose the game in the last seconds with such a spectacular display of team work is no failure.

“It’s a credit to the boys that they worked together so well and kept fighting.”

Arran Gregory scored three tries, with Matthew Anderson getting two. Cammy Philp also crossed the line.
