WOMAN IN CARJACKING BID ORDEAL
Driver punched but escapes after being flagged down
A woman was targeted in what appeared to be an attempted car-jacking in broad daylight.
The 29-year-old was driving her Vauxhall Corsa west along the A89, near Bangour Hospital, at Dechmont, on Monday when a woman who was standing at the side of the road flagged her down.
She rolled down her window and was punched in the face by the woman while a man tried to get into her car by opening the passenger door, which was locked.
The victim drove off and contacted police, who are now warning motorists to be vigilant and be wary of any attempts to flag them down.
Officers investigating the shocking incident are also appealing for anyone who has information to get in touch.
They said the female suspect is described as white, around five feet three inches tall with tied-up brown hair and was wearing a blue hooded top.
The only description of the male suspect was that he was wearing a darkcoloured jacket.
Inspector Scott Robertson, from Broxburn Police Station, said: “Fortunately, the woman was not injured during this incident and neither suspect was able to gain entry to her car. Nevertheless, she was left extremely shaken as a result of the incident and we are pursuing various lines of inquiry to trace both suspects.
“Anyone who has information that can assist with our inquiries is asked get in touch.
“We would also urge other motorists to be wary of any similar attempts from individuals trying to flag down their vehicles and report any such incidents to police immediately.”
