X Factor spot signed, sealed and delivered

- Eddie Harbinson

Fauldhouse X Factor hopeful Garry Greig was the star of the show at the weekend.

The 23- year- old singer impressed the judges by belting out Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours in Edinburgh.

And he was given high praise by Simon Cowell, sitting alongside fellow judges Nicole Scherzinger and Louise Walsh.

During the audition, Simon was recorded telling fellow judge Nicole: “He’s got a great voice.”

At the end of the song, the music mogul added: “Scotland’s got soul.”

Garry is now into the second boot-camp stage after ‘boys’ group mentor Nicole whittled her acts down from 150 to just 20 during the first round.

He said: “After the audition, it was down to London for the bootcamp stage. We were all put up in the Hilton and coaches picked us up every day. The cameras are on us all the time, it’s a bit like Big Brother.

“There’s a free bar and a hot tub but it’s all designed to test us.

“You try and get some information on what the challenges will be during bootcamp but no-one tells you anything. What I do know is that the competition is really strong this year.”

He added: “Nicole is the mentor for the ‘boys’ group, which I’m in. She has just told me to be myself and show everyone what I can do on stage.

“I’m going to London for the next part of bootcamp and that’ll be when I’ll find out if I’ve done enough to make it to the judges houses.

“There’s lots of different challenges to complete, including a wall with song choices on it. You get a song to perform and whether it’s your type of song or not, you’ve got to do it.”

Earlier this month we told of how Garry narrowly missed out on a place in One Direction in 2010.

After originally being told they hadn’t made the cut as soloists, Garry and seven other boys including Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik were called back to perform in front of the judges.

Sadly Garry was one of three who didn’t get into the band.

But he’s hoping this is his year, adding: “It has been a very busy year and X Factor has topped it all off. After my disappointment in 2010, I came back stronger and more mature.”
