An intrepid West Lothian family are lacing up their running shoes to help a local group.
The Kidd family, from Bellsquarry, are taking part in the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run in Glasgow this weekend to raise money for Signpost.
Scott (13), Beth (11) and Emma Kidd (9) will run the junior 2.5km race and are hoping to raise lots of money to thank the charity for its support after Scott was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome in 2009.
They said dedicated volunteers from Signpost helped the whole family to understand the condition and find ways to support Scott.
Beth said: “Signpost helped us understand what it’s like for our brother. We borrowed books about it from the Signpost library.
“Also it’s good to know Scott’s not the only one with Asperger’s. We now know other people who have it as well.
“Now we want to give back to Signpost so that other families can benefit. We hope people will help us raise as much as we can by donating anything they can.”
Lesley Mount from Signpost said: “As a small charity which relies on donations, we are thrilled that the family are supporting us.
“The money raised will be used to give more young people with additional support needs the same chances and choices as their friends. Good luck to Scott, Beth and Emma.”
Signpost offers information and support to young people with additional support needs and their families in West Lothian.
Volunteers aim to provide a one-stop shop where people can explain their needs and be matched to agencies or other sources of information.
