What now for young after Brexit?

-

Well this month has seen the return of West Lothian’s economic Conference and the launch of our Developing Young Work Force project (DYW).

the event was a great success with speakers talking about the general purpose of the DYW and what is already in place within West Lothian Council’s DYW project within the education sector.

our main speaker was Duncan Whitehead from eY (ernst and Young) who spoke to us about the context within scotland with Brexit.

He spoke about how in general young people voted to stay in the eu, in contrast a majority of over 45 voted to leave and 60 per cent over 60s. Voting also exposed a number of fault lines in uK society with voting patterns varying markedly by age, level of education, geography and economic prospects.

With these findings it’s all the more important for the government and the uK economy to create and foster the right conditions for young people to flourish in work regardless of their back ground or circumstances.
