Burn let two goal lead slip

- Broxburn Ath .......... 3 Glenafton Ath ......... 3

Broxburn Athletic will have to do it all over again after they let a 3-1 lead slip in the final minutes against Glenafton Athletic.

The Burn looked to be in total control of the contest as they sat two goals and a man up entering the 89th minute but Joseph Andrew pounced from close range to reduce the gap before Kyle McAusland rifled a free-kick home in the fifth minute of injury time to grab an unbelievable draw for the 2013 beaten finalists.

The two sides were evenly matched during the first 45 minutes with Scott Richards’neat header for the hosts being cancelled out just before the break by David Gray with a neatly taken free-kick.

But Broxburn came out all guns blazing in the early stages of the second half and quickly found themselves two goals in front.

Richards got his second when he jinked past a pair of Glenafton defenders and fired into the bottom corner just three minutes after the restart.

Ross Nimmo passed up a great chance to make it 3-1 win he fired over the bar but the two goal advantage wasn’t long in coming as Kieron Anderson’s corner was headed into the net by the diving Craig Purves.

Broxburn were beginning to take total control as they peppered the visiting goal with chances but were unable to grab a fourth.

With time running out, the final blow appeared to be delivered on Glenafton’s hopes of a comeback when Alistair Park was shown his second yellow card with a minute of normal time remaining.

But Andrew and then McAusland struck to leave Broxburn bemused.
