Whitburn fight back for win

- Camelon ................. 3 Whitburn ................ 4

Whitburn stunned Superleague opponents Camelon with a remarkable comeback to book their place in Saturday’s Scottish Junior Cup Second Round draw.

Having gone seven league games without a win, Tom Hendrie’s side had been struggling for form and sitting two goals down at half-time appeared to signal the end of their Scottish Junior Cup involvement for another year - but the Burnie had other ideas.

Scott Taylor and Alan Docherty had given Camelon a comfortable lead at the interval, but Jack Hamilton brought the Burnie back into the tie barely a minute after the restart with a free-kick.

Former Linlithgow Rose stalwart Gordon Herd restored Camelon’s two goal lead almost instantly.

However, from that point on it was almost entirely one-way traffic as Whitburn netted three times in the next 20 minutes.

Jordan Bain reduced the deficit with a simple tap-in from close range before captain Gary Brass flicked on Hamilton’s corner into the path of prolific striker Callum Roberston who made no mistake as he slammed the ball into the roof of the net to bring his side level.

And the winner would come with 20 minutes left on the clock as Hamilton’s set-pieces would again prove crucial for the Burnie.

Having already netted a wonderful free-kick and assisted from a corner, Hamilton scored his second with another dead ball from the edge of the box.

Whitburn will be desperate to take that confidence into their league campaign and climb out of the Premier League danger zone.
