Phoenix stars in flight to TeamGB

Achievemen­ts over summer give inspiratio­n at club

Lothian Phoenix wheelchair basketball club have certainly had a special summer.

The Armadale-based side have seen a number of their players representi­ng Scotland or Great Britain at a series of prestigiou­s events.

Several of the club’s youth members were part of the Scotland Under-15 squad that lifted the British Wheelchair Basketball’s National Junior Championsh­ip, while David Beattie represente­d Great Britain Under-19s against Germany.

And the club’s former star Robyn Love made history as part of the first Paralympic­sGB team to reach the semi-finals of the Paralympic Games as she made the squad for Rio.

Phoenix head coach Tina Gordon said:“Lothian Phoenix players have certainly had a busy and successful summer. We are delighted with the progress and success of our junior players representi­ng Scotland in winning the National Junior Championsh­ip, while David Beattie’s selection for the GB Under-19 squad is proving that the developmen­t is reaping rewards.

“It was also amazing to see Robyn Love playing for Team GB at the Paralympic­s Games in Rio last month and I know that she is a great inspiratio­n to all our club members.”

Phoenix are continuing to grow as a club and have teams in the British Wheelchair Basketball’s Second and Third National Division as well as a developmen­t team of new players in the Scottish league and a strong youth set-up.
