Achievements over summer give inspiration at club
Lothian Phoenix wheelchair basketball club have certainly had a special summer.
The Armadale-based side have seen a number of their players representing Scotland or Great Britain at a series of prestigious events.
Several of the club’s youth members were part of the Scotland Under-15 squad that lifted the British Wheelchair Basketball’s National Junior Championship, while David Beattie represented Great Britain Under-19s against Germany.
And the club’s former star Robyn Love made history as part of the first ParalympicsGB team to reach the semi-finals of the Paralympic Games as she made the squad for Rio.
Phoenix head coach Tina Gordon said:“Lothian Phoenix players have certainly had a busy and successful summer. We are delighted with the progress and success of our junior players representing Scotland in winning the National Junior Championship, while David Beattie’s selection for the GB Under-19 squad is proving that the development is reaping rewards.
“It was also amazing to see Robyn Love playing for Team GB at the Paralympics Games in Rio last month and I know that she is a great inspiration to all our club members.”
Phoenix are continuing to grow as a club and have teams in the British Wheelchair Basketball’s Second and Third National Division as well as a development team of new players in the Scottish league and a strong youth set-up.
