Hoose enjoy goal spree

- Fauldhouse Utd ...... 5 West Calder Utd ...... 0

Fauldhouse United put their poor league form to one side as they eased past South Division outfit West Calder United in a Fife and Lothians Cup second round tie.

The Hoose were coming off a tough league draw at home to Carnoustie that saw them concede in the seventh minute of injury-time.

But they put that disappointment to one side as they swept past Greig Mitchell’s men at Park View.

The hosts handed a debut to new stopper Jon Connolly with first-choice goalkeeper Jonny Grier suspended. Stephen Findlay’s men took control of the contest from the first whistle and never looked like being on the receiving end of cup shock once they opened their account on the half-hour mark.

They netted again just before the break to leave their visitors with a mountain to climb in the second half, but a dominant Fauldhouse display put paid to that as they found the net a further three times.

Former Airdrie striker Kyle Richford netted twice for Fauldhouse with Liam Coogans, James Martin and Gary Fallon also finding the net in a comprehensive victory.

While the Hoose were in cup action, fellow Superleague strugglers Carnoustie Panmure were able to make the most of their opportunity as they claimed a shock 4-3 win away to high-flying Broughty Athletic to send United to the foot of the table.

They’ll be hoping their stay there is short-lived as they are back in league action this weekend with a home fixture against Musselburgh Athletic.

West Calder United visit Oakley United hoping for a second straight away league victory.
