Ex-teacher has no plea against sex allegation

- Eddie Harbinson

A former Whitburn Academy French teacher struck-off for engaging in sexual activity with a pupil hasn’t appealed against her striking-off order.

Shona Wilkie, formerly known as Isabelle Graham, spent the night with a 17-year-old pupil after the school prom in June 2014. Ms Wilkie, 28, had denied the charges, claiming her drink had been spiked and she couldn’t remember the events.

But at a hearing of the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in August, she was struck-off. She had the option of appealing the decision at the Court of Session but no papers have been lodged.

The scandal emerged after the prom night in June 2014 when a picture emerged on social media showing a blonde woman in bed and a boy standing by the door with a bottle in his hand.

Police launched an investigation but no criminal charges were brought against Mrs Wilkie, who later resigned as a teacher at the school.

The hearing was told of how pupils were shocked by Mrs Wilkie’s actions.

After the hearing was told of concerns Mrs Wilkie had drinks spiked, DS Keith Mailer, who investigated the incident for Police Scotland, was called as a witness. He reviewed CCTV footage and told there had been no evidence Mrs Wilkie was under the excessive influence of drugs or alcohol. Mrs Wilkie, who now lives outwith Scotland, failed to appear for any part of the hearing nor by video link. In a written submission she claimed to be a practicing Christian who was waiting until marriage before having sex.
