Fanciers seal first win at Brucefield

-

A fierce finish saw home team Brucefield Crofters fall to a final leg defeat to the Doo Club Fanciers in a Championship encounter of the West Calder and District Darts League.

The win marked the Fanciers’ first victory of the season and it was fully deserved as the all-women team made the most of their chances.

Volunteer Highway Men from Uphall have opened a four- point lead at the top of the Premier league, while Brucefield Farmers secured their first win of this campaign, having come up as champions of the Championship last season.

Grand Central, a new team in the league this year, have won four matches from five and look to be real title challengers in the Championship. They sit in second place, just two points behind the Cawburn Highlanders.

Results: Premier League - Central Bar Rebels 3- 6 Volunteer Highway Men, Cawburn Assassins 6- 3 Commercial Inn Nomads, Almondale Pirates 6- 3 Loganlea Colliers, Doo Club Flyers 0-9 Brucefield Farmers.

Championship - Brucefield Crofters 4-5 Doo Club Fanciers, Tower Bar Knights 4-5 Grand Central Railroaders, Commerical Inn Juniors 3- 6 Cawburn Highlanders, Stirrup Stane Indians 5- 4 Deans BC Golden Oldies.

Saturday saw darting action take place in the Cawburn Sports Bar in Pumpherston, with two places up for grabs at this weekend’s exhibition contest in Bathgate that will feature a number of the game’s top players, including former world champions Ted Hankey and Andy Fordham,

Paul McCaig from the Grand Central Railroaders and Volunteer Highway Men’s Jim Mitchell were the lucky two to progress after some brilliant darts.

Mitchell won a last- leg decider against Scott Baillie in the quarter-finals before sealing his place with a 4-1 victory over Martin Deegan.

McCaig was in terrific form to make it through to the final eight, where he eased past John McKie 4-1.

However, in the semifinal his opponent Lewis Lyle needed a 60 checkout at 3-3 to book his berth, only to miss out. McCaig made no mistake with his 66 to win and seal his place in the exhibition event.
