United hit double figures in cup rout

- Forfar Albion .......... 0 Blackburn Utd ....... 11

Superleague Callum Carson Blackburn United hit 11 past hapless Forfar Albion as they eased into the third round of the Scottish Junior Cup.

Despite the final outcome, it wasn’t until the 28th minute that the visitors actually broke the deadlock.

Having threatened on numerous occasions, most notably a Craig Young stinging free-kick that was tipped round the post, Blackburn opened the scoring.

Prolific frontman Andy McQuillan added to his club- record goal tally with the first of his hat-trick when he smashed the ball home at the back post after a Gowans cross.

Three minutes later, Gowans would find the net himself as he chased down a long ball, beating Albion goalkeeper Jason King, and tapping into the empty net.

Having got themselves in front, there was now no stopping the South Division leaders and McQuillan would score twice more before the half-time break to give his side a 4-0 cushion at the interval.

The first came on 37 minutes when he was on the end of some neat work between Gowans and Young before he held off the attention of the Albion defence to fire past King.

The treble arrived on the stroke of half- time as Gary Calvey flicked on a long clearance in to the path of McQuillan who brilliantly turned his marker and bulleted an angled drive across goal and into the far corner.

Four goals marked an impressive first half, but the visitors went three better after the break, scoring another seven.

Young would make it five as he got the goal his play had deserved as his 20-yard free-kick flew past King on 53 minutes and into the net.

Things went from bad to worse for Albion, who have picked up just one league win all season, when Matthew Muir kicked out at Calvey. Blackburn
