Hayley’s ‘special’ night in Scotland jersey
Livingston lass Hayley Lauder described playing for Scotland in her home town as a ‘ special moment’ despite suffering a 7-0 defeat against the Netherlands on Thursday night.
Glasgow City midfielder Lauder started the game and played 67 minutes before being replaced by Erin Cuthbert.
She said: “I’m a Livingston girl so it was a special moment for me to be honest.
“It was great to be able to play in front of a lot of family and friends who don’t often get the chance to see me play for Scotland.
“Obviously the result and performance wasn’t ideal but I guess you could say at least it happened now. It’s July and the Euro Championships that we need to be ready for and this is a step towards that.
“They showed how good a side they are and played well.”
She added: “I remember playing at Murieston United when Shelley Kerr was playing and looking up to her and it’s a bit surreal that local girls will be looking up to me in that way, but it’s good.
“We pride ourselves on being positive role models and I hope that I was able to do that despite the result.”
Scotland held their own in the first half with Vivianne Miedema’s goal all that separated the sides going into injury-time, however a 60-yard run and finish from Lineth Beerensteyn was followed up by Miedema pouncing to head home from close range after Manieke Dekker hit the bar from 30 yards to make it 3-0 to the visitors at the break.
Substitute Shanice van de Sanden turned in a virtuoso performance in the second half as she set up goals for Renee Slegers and Ellen Jansen before pouncing on a Gemma Fay error to slot home number six.
Jackie Groenen rounded off the scoring with a neat turn and finish in the 85th minute as the Euro 2017 hosts sealed a decisive victory.
On Sunday, Lauder helped guide her Glasgow City side to a tenth straight Scottish title thanks to a 3-1 win over Hibernian.
In a fine display, she hit the woodwork twice as well as creating two assists.
