Brox fight back in cup tie

-

Broxburn Athletic came back from a goal down at half-time to book their place in the third round of the Fife and Lothians Cup with a convincing win over South Division side Kirkcaldy YM.

The home side went into the contest having yet to taste victory in the league while the free-scoring Burn had found the net more times than any other Superleague team.

So it was a huge shock that Scott Small fired the Fifers into the lead on 20 minutes.

That was a lead the hosts would take into the half-time break despite almost constant pressure from the travelling Brox.

They would eventually get on level terms just two minutes after the restart with a fine solo goal from the prolific Kieran Anderson.

The game was still tied when the visitors were awarded a penalty with 20 minutes left on the clock.

Anderson promptly slotted the ball home for his second of the afternoon.

From that point on, it was utter domination from Athletic who would go on to score a further three times in the latter stages.

Craig Purves would make it three with a bulleted header at the back post while Anderson turned from finisher to provider as Zander Miller got in on the action to make it 4-1 to the visitors and put to bed any hopes of a giant-killing by the home side.

The best was left to last, though, as Broxburn would score their fifth in stunning fashion as Nicholas Locke waltzed through the Kirkcaldy back line before finding the net to wrap up the scoring in fine fashion.

Max Christie’s men, who have been inconsistent in the league, host Bo’ness United on Saturday.
