Hopkin happy with display in defeat

-

Livingston head coach David Hopkin refused to be downbeat after the loss and heaped praise on his team’s performance – but was less than impressed with the officials.

The defeat was Livi’s fourth in the league this season as they saw their lead at the top of the table reduced to a single point.

Despite the loss, the hosts did create numerous chances they would normally put away.

Hopkin said: “We played well and the first half was probably the best we’ve played for a while, we should have been two or three up at half-time.

“I thought some of the decisions that went against us were really poor. I can’t see where Liam Buchanan is offside for the first goal that we scored.

“Their first goal, I think Rory McAllister is standing about four yards offside.

“The linesman told me his interpretation and he must be a genius – that’s all I’m saying.”

He added: “I was disappointed to go in at halftime one-nil down and in the second half we created five or six chances.

“We should be putting teams to the sword and if we scored one of those I think we’d have gone on to win it comfortably but we switch off again and get done on the counter-attack.

“The players have played well on a difficult surface and they tried to pass the ball.

“Peterhead had three chances and scored two but that’s the nature of football. If you don’t take your chances or score goals, you don’t win games.”

And the former Scotland international is in no doubt his side will recover from the loss and start finding the net again.

He said: “I think we dismantled Peterhead in the first half and just didn’t have that goal to show for it.

“I’d be more worried if we didn’t create chances. Danny’s hit the bar and hit a shot over the bar from a yard and their keeper made a couple of good saves.

“It’s one of those games that football sometimes throws at you.

“We’re creating chances and I think we’ll be fine, I’m sure we’ll bounce back.”
