Boarded up but cafe doors open again

-

The defiant owners of the fire- hit cafe are spreading the message that they are very much open for business.

Cappadocia Cafe on George Street was set alight on Thursday night. The blaze destroyed the windows and damaged the front of the building and some of the furniture inside.

Vandals set fire to plastic decorative bushes and the flames spread up the front of the building, causing over £5000 worth of damage.

But owner Agata Tadysz said they will not be beaten by the firebugs and the popular cafe reopened its doors on Tuesday to loyal customers.

She told the Courier: “It’s a really bad time of year for this to happen but we’re really happy to be open again.

“We’re all boarded up at the front just now because the fire destroyed the windows but inside we’re fine.

“It’s going to be very expensive to replace the windows. We also had to throw out some chairs and couches and the whole place will need painted again but it could have been much worse.”

She continued: “We’re really angry and quite sad that this has happened and it was a very dangerous thing to do.

“We just wanted to make the front of the cafe look nice with the planters. I don’t understand why people always have to ruin things.

“Our customers have all been really supportive and we’d like to thank them for that and we want everyone to know that we are open.”
