New council homes for town

- Courier reporter

New council homes have been completed in Bathgate.

The houses at Glasgow Road are on the site of a former pub and are part of West Lothian Council’s new house building programme, which will see 1000 new council homes built by 2017 across each of the nine council wards.

The housing development was constructed on behalf of West Lothian Council by Lovell.

The development includes four one bedroom cottage flats, four two bedroom cottage flats and a two bedroom bungalow.

A new access road and turning circle to Windyknowe Primary School has been constructed on the site as part of the project.

West Lothian Council leader John McGinty joined council staff, Councillor George Paul, new tenant Elizabeth Seagust and her daughter Shirley Seagust at Ms Seagust’s new home at Glasgow Road to see the completed homes.

John McGinty said: “Building new affordable homes is a key priority for the council and this £111million investment will deliver lasting benefits for local people for generations to come.

“This development is part of a wider project to deliver 1,000 new homes across West Lothian. We are delighted the new homes at Glasgow Road are now completed and that tenants have moved in.

“The quality of the new homes is fantastic and I’m sure the homes will be a welcomed addition to their community.”

George Paul, Executive councillor for service to the community, added: “Affordable housing is in short supply but the council is playing a leading role in helping local people into good quality homes within all council ward areas.”
