Coyne treble seals the deal

- Dundee North End .. 0 Linlithgow Rose ..... 5

Linlithgow Rose eased into the fourth round of the Scottish Junior Cup with a comprehensive victory away at North Division outfit Dundee North End.

Tommy Coyne netted a hat-trick, with Kevin Kelbie firing home the other two as the Rose ensured that two West Lothian teams made it to the fourth round, with Fauldhouse United having already booked their place.

The game went ahead at the third time of asking and the visitors wasted no time in taking the lead.

The prolific Coyne got the ball rolling after seven minutes with a neat solo strike before he doubled his side’s around the half hour mark, with Kelbie making it 3-0 just before the break.

The striker netted his second from distance in the early stages of the second half with Coyne completing the scoring — and his hat-trick — in the 58th minute with a well-taken volley from 10 yards.

However, the Prestonfield men still don’t know who their opponents will be thanks to a ref blunder in the replay between Blantyre Victoria and Bo’ness United.

The two teams had drawn 1-1 but the referee played extra-time when it should have gone straight to a penalty shoot-out.

The ref then abandoned the match midway through extra-time due to bad light and went to penalties with Blantyre winning 4-3, although Bo’ness have appealed the result due to the refereeing error.

The Rose have been inconsistent this season and they will be hoping they can now start climbing the Superleague table starting this weekend with a tricky away trip to Broughty Athletic.
