Cadden ready to take on spot duties

-

Nicky Cadden insists there was never any doubt about who was going to take Livingston’s late penalty.

The youngster calmly converted the spot-kick in the 89th minute to give his side the three points against Albion Rovers.

But with regular penalty taker Liam Buchanan having been subbed and Danny Mullen missing with injury, it was up to the ex-Airdrie winger to step up and score his fourth goal of the season.

He said: “Obviously Buchs is the normal penalty taker but I’ve always said I’m happy to take them.

“I’m always confident and I scored one with Airdrie so I grabbed the ball and was wanting a goal and I got it. Thankfully it won us the game.”

It was a tough grind on a poor Cliftonhill surface but the late goal ensured the Lions remained at the top of the League One table and Cadden was full of praise for his team-mates.

The winger said: “The boys were fantastic on Saturday. It’s a hard place to go. I know it’s a cliche to say that but it really is.

“The pitch is tough and their fans get right behind them so it was brilliant to get the win.

“It shows the talent of our team that we can fight to the last minute and take the chance when it falls our way. It was fantastic to get the three points.

“We had a couple of guys out with Mikey and Danny being injured but others came in and it showed the strength in the squad.

“They played brilliantly and helped us get the win so that we’re still top of the league.”

It marked the first time in his young career that he has found the net in back- toback games having scored Livi’s leveller in their 2- 1 Scottish Cup win against Airdrieonians the previous week and he hopes that’s a sign of things to come.

“I’ve always said to my dad that I wanted to get more goals,” he said.

“It gives me that wee bit of pride and it also means that you are helping out the team as well.

“It’s good to be the one scoring goals instead of getting assists.”
