SLICK LIONS START TO GEL

Back four bond can be key to title tilt

- Callum Cars Carson

Livingston defender Craig Halkett says the defence can help lead the Lions to the League One title – now that they’ve started to gel.

The Lions keptk just their second clean sh sheet of the season in last week’s 1-01victory away to Albion Rovers butb the youngster believes that w will be a more familiar outcomeoutcom over the rest of the campaign campaign. He commented He commented: “We’ve not had as many clean she sheets as we would have liked but we’r we’re happy as long as we win games. “It’s always on theth back of your mind and it’s what you want to achieve as a defender. “The back four, and Liam in goals, are really starting to se settle in and that’s showing in the perfor the performances that we are putting in.

“There’s a good bond together between us now and it’s going well. Hopefully that can continue throughout the rest of the season and we can play our part defensively in winning as many games as possible.”

Saturday marks the club’s first trip back to Stranraer since their 5-2 play-off defeat that ultimately led to them being relegated last season.

But the 21-year-old says that’s not on his mind and won’t impact the team’s performance with the squad undergoing numerous changes since that clash.

He commented: “We’ve got a completely new team so it’s not something we’re thinking about at all to be honest.

“All the boys that weren’t here obviously are aware of the result and know about it from a different point of view, but for the guys that are still here it’s not on their minds.”

The Lions entered December sitting at the top of the table and the former Rangers youth player believes remaining there come the start of 2017 will be a success.

He said: “It’s not always about the performances when you’re away at tricky places like Albion. It’s about the points and we got all three so that’s really the main thing.

“It was a very tough afternoon and I’m sure our games next week away at Stranraer and then Stenhousemuir will be very tough.

“It’s a big month for us with difficult games, but if we can come out of it with plenty of points and still sitting at the top of the table, then it will be good.”

Livingston will be without Mikey Miller, who is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, while Danny Mullen is set to miss out after sustaining a wrist injury but should be fit in time to return against Airdrieonians on December 17.
