Broxburn jump five places

-

Broxburn Athletic came from behind to bag a vital three points at home to Lochee United.

The hosts entered the game fourth from bottom in the Superleague table and got off to the worst possible start when former Dundee striker Bryan Deasley pounced on an errant backpass to the goalkeeper.

He rounded Connor Wallace, but was clipped by the diving keeper with the striker promptly firing the ball home from the penalty spot.

It didn’t take long for the Burn to get back on level terms, though, with Grant Gavin heading Kieran Anderson’s cross into the top corner.

The match was barely 15 minutes old when the home side went close to getting their noses in front for the first time when Nathan Donnelly-Kay’s strike deflected past the post.

Zander Miller then saw his header tipped over the bar by Lochee keeper Mark Fotheringham.

Max Christie’s men had now gotten their poor start well and truly out of their system and completely dominated the second half.

However, a frustrating afternoon appeared on the cards as Broxburn passed up good chances but they eventually took the lead midway through the second half when Ross Nimmo’s dangerous cross was flicked on by Anderson with Donnelly-Kay at the back post to tap home.

The points were sealed two minutes later when Nimmo rifled home an Anderson corner to give the scoreline a more accurate reflection of the game.

Athletic did have chances to extend their lead but it was a great three points which took them five places higher in the standings.
