Help A Million Miracles
We all have the chance to do something amazing this Christmas to help others.
As an ambassador of Sightsavers, the charity that works to prevent and cure blindness in developing countries, I would love your readers to make a real difference to someone’s life by funding a life changing operation.
Sightsavers has pledged to make ‘A Million Miracles’ happen in some of the world’s poorest countries by raising enough money to fund one million sight restoring operations. A cataract operation that takes around 10 minutes and costs Sightsavers just £30, could save someone from a future of blindness.
I have been supporting Sightsavers for many years and have seen first-hand in Kenya how a simple eye operation can totally transform someone’s life.
So with this in mind, I would encourage readers to help Sightsavers perform a Christmas miracle by donating £30, or whatever they can, and give the gift of sight at million-miracles. org. It would be a truly wonderful Christmas present: the chance to change someone’s life. Thank you so very much. Lorraine Kelly.
MS P meets members of Royal British Legion
It was an honour to meet the Riders Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland when they came to Parliament to raise awareness of their work to support our veterans.
It is very important that we support our veterans and the fundraising activities which take place across Scotland all year round.
The Riders Branch RBLS raise thousands of pounds each year for veterans’ services across Scotland, as well as coming to the aid of communities in need, such as helping to clear up after the floods in Aberdeenshire last year.
I’m also delighted that the Riders Branch have taken part in West Lothian’s Armed Forces Day parade for the past two years and hope to see them there again in 2017. Angela Constance, MSP for Almond Valley.
Concern over rail cutbacks.
As an airline shareholder, I have been following the current railway industrial
It seems the bone of contention between Unions and Management is the safety function of guards - a function which the employers claim is used so infrequently that it doesn’t make economic sense to retain.
In terms of passenger mile per accident, this is undoubtedly equally true when it comes to airline cabin staff. If Southern Railways are successful in their bid to cut costs in this way, can we look forward to the UK airline industry being able to similarly save by replacing trolly dollies with recorded announcements of “Brace, Brace”? MSP thanks post staff
It is always great to meet the dedicated, hard-working Royal Mail postmen and women in West Lothian and to see firsthand just how much effort they put into delivering for people at this time of year.
The staff at our local delivery offices in Bathgate and Linlithgow do such an important job at this time of year. I’d like to thank them for their efforts and wish them and their families all the best over the busy festive period. Fiona Hyslop, MSP for Linlithgow.
