A leading charity is calling for West Lothian runners to sign up for the Edinburgh Marathon to raise cash.
The Stroke Association has guaranteed places for the marathon and are looking for people to join the team.
They ask all runners with a charity place to aim to raise a minimum of £450. All runners will receive a Stroke Association running vest, a 16- week training plan and lots more support.
In addition to the marathon there is also a half marathon, team relay, 10k and 5k across the Edinburgh Marathon Festival weekend in May.
Kirsty Scott from the Stroke Association in Scotland, said: “We work towards preventing strokes and helping those who have had a stroke get the support they need.
“By training and taking part, you’ll be helping reduce your own risk of stroke while raising awareness and money to support those already affected by the condition.”
General entries are closed for the full marathon and the only way to secure a place is through a charity entry. Register at www.stroke.org. uk/ edinburghmarathon. For more information, email supportercare@stroke.org.uk or call 0300 330 0740.
A brand new £2.5million extension has been officially unveiled at a Livingston primary school.
Toronto Primary in Howden has been given a facelift, including a new gym hall and changing areas.
The project also includes a new accessible main entrance, internal access improvements and a safe drop- off area out with the school grounds, as well as reroofing and insulating the existing classrooms.
Executive councillor for education Lawrence Fitzpatrick was guest of honour at a ceremony to mark the completion, where the Toronto school choir put on a special show to mark the occasion.
Councillor Fitzpatrick said: “It’s fantastic to be invited to officially open the £ 2.5m extension at Toronto Primary.
“The new gym hall and changing rooms will have a huge benefit, encouraging pupils to get active and boost their physical activity. West Lothian Council is committed to investing in education infrastructure to ensure our children have the best possible environment for learning as a springboard for success.
“We already have one of the best school estates in the country, with over £100m of investment between 2012 and 2018 to ensure our children have the quality school buildings they deserve.”
The extension connects and expands the existing inner street which runs through the school, creating a new main office area and re- routing vehicles and pedestrians to the new entrance.
Toronto head teacher, Lorraine Collins, added: “The new extension is already having a positive impact on our pupils and the new gym hall will help boost our active learning.
“The project has made a real difference to the whole school community at Toronto, improving access to the school inside and out.”
