Sandra McLaughlin 01506 435505 sandramcla­ughlin@blueyonder.co.uk Livingston United Parish Church is holding a hymnathon on Saturday 21 January from 10am – 8pm in the church at Nether Dechmont, Fells Rigg, Carmondean. We will be singing hymns and choruses all day arranged in ½ hour segments with breaks in between for refreshmen­ts. There will also be longer breaks at 1pm and 5pm when light meals will be available. This is a ‘drop-in’ event and anyone interested is invited to stay for as long or as short a time as you wish. The day will culminate with the final hour being a big sound praise party. Ladywell Playgroup currently has vacancies for children from 2yrs, Playgroup operates Monday-Friday 9.15a.m-11.15a.m at a cost of £17.00 per week, this includes a healthy snack. We are able to offer funded places to eligible 2year olds as part of the preschool provision for 2yr olds. Scout Group the 29th Scout Group’s Beaver Scout section has spaces for both boys and girls aged between 6 and 8 years old. We meet on Wednesdays from 6.30 pm to 7.30pm in Toronto Primary School and offer a wide range of fun games, crafts, outings, badges, awards and a chance to learn and try new things. Messy Church Monthly “Messy Church” Service on first Sunday of the month from 4 – 6 at Mosswood Community Centre, Knightsrid­ge. Craft, food and worship activity for all the family, and for all ages. Charity Shop Braid House Day Centre, Labrador Avenue, Howden, Livingston EH54 6BU has opened a ‘Little Charity Shop’ within the Day Centre. This sells all sorts of bric-abrac. Café Connect Extra is for people who have dementia and their carers to meet and give each other support. The café runs on the first Wednesday of the month from 2.00pm to 3.30pm at Dedridge Baptist Church, Quentin Rise, Dedridge EH52 5LH. Everyone is welcome to come along. Bra Bank Liz Howley is collecting unwanted wearable or new bras and new pants for girls and women for Smalls for All. Can you please hand them in to Sandra at Forestbank Community Centre and she will pass them on to Liz. Thanks to everyone who has handed some in already! Liz Howley is also a volunteer with a new service for Breast Cancer Care. She is part of a new team promoting “Breast Health Awareness”. This service is provided by a team of volunteers and is called “Team B-Aware”. This involves a short 15 minute talk about Breast Health Awareness and is aimed at small groups in the community such Ladies Groups, Young Mums Groups, Church Groups, Occupation­al Health Groups, Health Week Promotion Groups, Parents Associatio­n Groups etc. The list is endless and any interested groups or businesses can ask for a volunteer to come and give a talk. Memory Café Newyearfie­ld meets first Thursday of the month, 2.15 -3.30pm at Newyearfie­ld Farm Community Centre, Hawk Brae, Livingston North EH54 6AB. This friendly café welcomes people with dementia and their carers, where they can meet others in a similar situation for support and social contact whilst enjoying refreshmen­ts, friendly company and various activities. Carers on their own are also welcome, as are people with dementia who are able to make their own way there.
