- Sean O’Neil

We s t Lo t h i a n’s Lord- Lieutenant Isobel Brydie MBE has been given a prestigious new Royal appointment in recognition of her 15 years service as the Queen’s representative in West Lothian.

The Queen has bestowed on Mrs Brydie MBE the honour of Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO).

A former local councillor and board member for both Livingston Development Corporation and West Lothian Healthcare Trust, Mrs Brydie was asked to take on the Lord- Lieutenant role in 2002 in recognition of her distinguished service to public life in West Lothian.

Isobel Brydie said: “It’s a huge honour to receive this award, which is given for services to Her Majesty.

“It came as a huge surprise as I wasn’t expecting it at all. I think only four were given out in the whole of the UK.

“I’ve served as LordLieutenant for 15 years, which is longer than most, and it’s been fantastic to represent the Queen in West Lothian for all this time.

“I have especially enjoyed visiting all the people with special birthdays or anniversaries. I’m born and bred in West Lothian, so I can usually find a local connection with the people I meet.”

West Lothian Council’s Leader John McGinty and Depute Provost Dave King paid tribute to Isobel Brydie for receiving the sought-after honour.

Council Leader John McGinty said: “The CVO award is a fitting recognition for Isobel Brydie’s distinguished service as West Lothian’s Lord-Lieutenant.

“She’s a fantastic ambassador for the Queen in West Lothian, and it’s great to see the Royal Family recognising all her hard work over the last 15 years with this honour.”

Depute Provost Dave King added: “Many congratulations to Isobel Brydie on being made a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.

“Isobel has devoted her life to public service and is both respected and liked by all who know her.”

Mrs Br y d i e h a s represented the Queen in West Lothian at a range of services and special events during her time as Lord Lieutenant as well as helping with Royal visits to the area and Royal recognition schemes.

It is expected Mrs Brydie will be officially invested into the Royal Victorian Order by the Royal Family at a ceremony later this year.
