Choose Fairtrade products

- Debbie Hall

Gold, roses, chocolates and wine are just some of the gifts that people like to give their loved one on Valentine’s Day and the good news is that all of these tokens of love can be Fairtrade.

A thoughtful gift to your loved one could have the added bonus of supporting producers in the developing world to get a fair deal for their produce.

Along with the 100s of Fairtrade products available in West Lothian, including traditional Valentine’s Day gifts such as chocolates, wine and flowers you can also ask for Fairtrade gold.

And remember to ask your preferred restaurant if it uses Fairtrade Products.

If you are thinking about popping the question on Valentine’s Day, you can express your love and help third work producers by buying a Fairtrade Certificated gold engagement and wedding ring. To find out more about stockists see www.fairtrade.org.uk.

Chair of West Lothian Fairtrade Zone Steering Group and Leader of West Lothian Council John McGinty said:“What better way to show your caring side than buying a Fairtrade product this Valentine’s Day?

“We hope that local people will look out for the Fairtrade Mark and choose Fairtrade for their loved one. Fairtrade products are competitively priced and make a real difference to the farmers and communities involved.”
