Monday night saw the West Calder and District hold their annual league pairs competition with 48 pairs competing on all six match boards.

After three hours of intense play on the flock boards, defending champions Aitken and Fleming took on Harraughty and Borland in a best of 7 x501 grand final.

It was a tense affair which saw Harraughty and Borland take a 3-1 lead before missing doubles for the match. Aitken and Fleming then fought back to punish Harraughty and Borland for passing up the opportunity.

The defending champions finally took the West Calder title four games to three.

If the champions retain the trophy for the third time next year they will become only the second pairing to win it three times on the trot.

Elsewhere in the Bathgate Friday night league results finished Bentswood Inn 9-0 Lammies bar (1) Masonic 2-7 Cross Tavern, Corrie bar 5-4 Old Wine Store, Lammies bar (2) 8-1 Coppies bar.

Those results mean that Bentswood Inn still lead the league but just behind are the team from Fauldhouse Lammies (2) who are only two points behind.

In the open singles tournament held in the Murray bar Polbeth saw Davie Aitken from Polbeth claim the title with a 5-2 win over Callum Wilkinson from Whitburn.

West Lothian pair Graeme Bird and Jim Mitchell came runners up in the annual Moffat doubles competition.
