Skipper Sean knew strike was in

Livingston captain Sean Crighton says he knew his wonder goal was going in as soon as he hit it.

The defender gave his side the lead with a sensational volley from 25 yards as the Lions opened up a 12-point gap at the top of the League One table with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Airdrie.

It was the 26- year- old’s first league goal for the club after making the switch to West Lothian from Airdrie in the summer.

He said: “Sometimes they go in and sometimes they don’t. I knew as the ball was coming down that I just had to get my technique right and as soon as I hit it, I knew it was in.

“I’m delighted to get the goal but obviously it was more important that we got the win.

“I think I might have scored a similar goal when I was at under-15 level and the keeper was about two foot tall.

“That was definitely the best goal I’ve scored.”

And the defender, who has made the switch to rightback following the signing of Declan Gallagher, joked that his goals are so few and far between that it wasn’t any more significant that he found the net against his former team.

He said: “To be honest, I don’t score often enough for it to matter whether it’s against my former team or not. It doesn’t make it any more special, I’m just happy to take them when they come.

“We knew Airdrie would come out and have a go at us. They’re in the top four because they’re a good team and they had to come out and beat us to close the gap.

“Once the goal went in it helped us, and after the second it really became our game to lose and we weren’t going to do that.”

As for his switch in positions, he said: “The gaffer asked me to play the position and said that he thought I had decent legs to get up and down the park.

“He spoke to me about it and I just told him that I’m happy to play wherever as long as I’m helping the team out and if that’s what he thinks is best.

“The main concern is the team and I’ll do what it takes to win.”
