Wright forced to settle for a draw

-

Livingston-born darts ace Peter ‘Snakebite’Wright will be hoping to continue his fine form in round five of the 2017 Premier Darts League tonight (Thursday).

The popular 46-year-old is last up at the Westpoint Arena in Exeter and will take on Adrian Lewis.

Wright is coming off a 6-6 draw against Raymond van Barnveld last week in Brighton and has lost just once in his opening four games, currently occupying fourth spot in the table.

Despite the draw seeing Wright continue his unbeaten run, it is a game he should have won.

The two players couldn’t be separated in the opening eight legs before Snakebite claimed the first break of the game before holding his throw in the next leg to take a 6-4 lead.

But the Dutchman would produce his best darts of the night by throwing a 12-darter against the throw in the final leg to deny Wright the chance of going joint top of the table.

Wright commented:“I had my chances but didn’t take them.

“It’s always difficult against Raymond and he showed that with the 12-darter against the throw in the last leg.”

Michael van Gerwen, Phil Taylor and James Wade share top spot on six points with all three players having won two and drawn two of their four matches.

Wright will get to perform in front of his home crowd next week when the Premier League visits the SSE Hydro in Glasgow where he will take on Wade before the tour moves to Rotterdam the following week.
