Stoneyburn/Bents Heritage GROUP The Stoneyburn Heritage Group and the Stoneyburn and Bents Future Visions Group are working with West Lothian arts organisation Generation Arts to gather information about the towns history. Stoneyburn has a rich and colourful past that the Heritage Group wish to share with others. Rumour has it that both Golden Wonder crisps were invented in Stoneyburn, and very few of the younger residents know that Stoneyburn was at the heart of Scotland’s first oil rush. The Heritage Group have chosen 10 locations that form a trail through the town and a writer and illustrator are now creating 10 stories and illustrations inspired by these locations. The group have been meeting to share stories, research old newspapers and pour through hundreds of photographs gathered locally and at the West Lothian Local History Library. The artists will be working with an upper primary class in each school to introduce children to the processes of the project. Pupils will choose their own important place in the village and the artists will help each pupil make a poem and art work inspired by their chosen place. The project will culminate in an exhibition in Stoneyburn in late May where the town trail will be launched and selected resource material will be exhibited.
