Butchers join the upper crust
two West Lothian butchers were crowned champions at the British pie awards in Melton Mowbray last week.
Boghall Butchers and John Lawson Butchers were awarded championship wins in their classes.
Boghall Butchers took home the dessert pie class for their Bramley apple pie while John Lawson were awarded the lamb pie class for their shredded lamb ragu pie.
paul Boyle of Boghall Butchers said: “We’re delighted. It was a successful few days.
“We got golds for our chicken Balmoral pie and our steak and kidney pie and a British championship for our Bramley apple pie.”
the butcher had been scheduled to appear on television show‘this Morning’ with paul Vickery but the slot was cancelled.
paul said:“the interview got deleted. We had been and done the interview but we were then told that paul Vickery was going on to cook the pie live on tV.”
the butcher has been attending the British pie awards since it began eight years ago and said it was nice for a small shop to get recognition.
paul said he will return to the competition next year and try to go one step further.
He said:“We’ll have a go at the supreme championship next year.”
graham Lawson, of John Lawson Butchers, was delighted with their championship win for the lamb pie, with all the meat sourced from their family farm in Bathgate.
He said:“We’re delighted to announce that we won the lamb category with our championship lamb pie.
Linda Lawson said:“there were about 900 pies in for the awards so we did pretty well to get a championship out of that. We’re pretty chuffed.”
