Jolly Beggars reward young Burns fans
Three Bathgate schoolgirls were presented with certificates and book tokens after winning an essay competition on the life of Rabbie Burns.
The lucky winners were Wendy Pender, Alison Duffie and Elaine Scott.
The prizes were presented by J Morrison, assistant director of education for Lothian Region.
The contest was organised by Bathgate Jolly Beggars Club and attracted over 300 entries from P7 pupils attending schools in Bathgate and the surrounding areas.
It was the second year that the competition had been run and marked a huge increase in participants from the previous year.
Our picture, which originally featured in the March 18, 1977, edition of the Courier, shows the girls being presented with their prizes.
